The Procedure

On the day of the CoolSculpting® procedure, the patient arrives wearing comfortable clothes and may bring some sort of entertainment, such as a book, laptop, or iPad. Many patients even work remotely while being treated! The typical procedure lasts approximately 2-4 hours, depending on the number of areas being treated.

Coolsculpting Treatment

Pre-procedure “before” photographs are taken from several different angles. The patient's weight is taken and the planned treatment areas are carefully measured and marked. The patient is then able to sit back and relax in our comfortable treatment room. Katelyn applies a thin gel pad to help protect the skin during treatment and the appropriate external applicator is applied. The patient will then feel a strong suction as the fat bulge is pulled a few inches into the applicator followed by a cooling sensation. Cooling plates bring the temperature of the fat under the skin to a temperature which begins the process of crystallizing the fat cells.

The skin temperature is carefully monitored by the device, to ensure that there is no injury to the skin. This initial pull of the skin may cause slight discomfort, which subsides a few minutes into treatment when the area becomes numb. After 60 min, the applicator is removed and the area is massaged for 1-2 minutes. If multiple areas are being treated, the applicator is then moved to the next area and the process is repeated. When the treatment is complete, the patient may simply return to normal activity and let the fat start to disappear!
